In early 2021 ReBicycle EkeRua, USO Bike Ride and Greater Wellington were awarded a funding grant from Wellington Community Trust as part of their Climate Action Fund.

Our project aims to improve access to safe working bikes for more people in the Wellington region. This has the overall goal to improve community resilience and reduce carbon emissions.

Our project has three parts:

Regional bike hub facilitation – supporting existing bike hubs (libraries, workshops and other not-for-profits) where they need it. This may include bulk purchasing helmets, locks or parts, fundraising, grant applications, coordinating volunteers and redistributing resources across the region.

Bike fix up van – A fully electric van kitted out with all the tools and parts needed for a mobile workshop. This will travel around the region supporting local mechanics to fix bikes and teach maintenance for those most in need.

Eastern Porirua Bike hub – led by USO Bike Ride. There has been strong interest over the years in creating a cycle hub in Eastern Porirua. To support this vision the project will support the establishment of a bike library and workshop.

We’re very excited to be part of this important mahi over the next three years. Keep an eye on our facebook page for the latest updates.
